Custom Wheel Adapters: When Off-the-Shelf Adapters Won’t Fit
Sometimes a standard wheel adapter will not work.
Maybe your bolt pattern is uncommon. Maybe the wheels came from a different vehicle. Maybe you need a specific hub bore, thickness, or stud size. When a standard part does not match your setup, a custom wheel adapter may be the answer.
Billet Wheel Adapters offers a custom 6-lug adapter option for specific fitment needs.
When You May Need Custom Wheel Adapters
You may need custom adapters if:
- Your vehicle bolt pattern is uncommon
- Your wheel bolt pattern is uncommon
- You need a specific thickness
- You need a specific hub bore
- You need a specific stud size
- You want hub-centric fitment
- You are working on a custom truck, car, SUV, ATV, or UTV
- You cannot find a standard adapter that matches your setup
Custom adapters are useful when your fitment is not a normal shelf item.
What Measurements Are Needed?
Before ordering custom wheel adapters, gather:
- Vehicle year, make, and model
- Vehicle bolt pattern
- Wheel bolt pattern
- Vehicle hub bore
- Wheel center bore
- Desired adapter thickness
- Stud size
- Thread pitch
The more accurate your information is, the better the final fitment will be.
Use the How To Select guide, Fitment Guide, and Conversion Chart to confirm your measurements.
Vehicle Side vs Wheel Side
A custom adapter has a vehicle side and a wheel side.
The vehicle side must match the hub. The wheel side must match the wheel.
Do not reverse these measurements. If your vehicle is 6x5.5 and your wheels are 6x135, the adapter must be ordered in that direction.
Thickness and Clearance
Custom thickness can help solve clearance issues.
You may need more thickness if:
- The wheel hits the brake caliper
- The tire rubs suspension
- The factory studs stick out too far
- The wheel sits too far inward
- You want a wider stance
But too much thickness can create fender poke or rubbing, so choose carefully.
Hub-Centric Custom Adapters
Hub-centric adapters center on the vehicle hub. This can help improve fitment and reduce vibration caused by poor centering.
If your setup needs this, browse hub and wheel centric adapters or confirm your hub bore before placing a custom order.
