5-Lug to 6-Lug Wheel Adapters: An Ordering Checklist

A 5-lug to 6-lug conversion requires a specific five-lug vehicle pattern and a specific six-lug wheel pattern. The adapter is not identified fully until both bolt-circle diameters are known. The construction, installed thickness and hardware also belong in the ordering decision.

Choose a complete conversion name

Examples in the catalog include 5x4.5 to 6x5.5 and 5x135 to 6x5.5. These are different starting patterns even though both lead to a six-lug wheel interface.

5x4.5 equals 5x114.3 mm, and 6x5.5 equals 6x139.7 mm. Translate the units when needed, but preserve the vehicle-to-wheel order.

Ask about the complete assembly

A product's construction determines how its parts fit together. Review the exact listing and installation information instead of assuming all lug-count conversions use the same design.

Ask whether the stated thickness refers to the full assembly, which mounting hardware is included, and which hardware must be obtained separately. If a product uses multiple pieces, those pieces are part of a specified system; do not treat them as permission to combine unrelated spacers.

Wheel dimensions can change the decision

The new wheel's width and offset matter alongside the adapter thickness. A wheel can have the desired pattern while placing its tire or rear surface in the wrong position for the vehicle.

Collect the wheel's exact part number and dimensional information. Check the clearance checklist for questions about mounting faces and hardware pockets, and use the fitment guide to organize the remaining details.

The final order check

  1. Match the vehicle-side pattern.
  2. Match the wheel-side pattern.
  3. Confirm the bores, hardware and required construction.
  4. Confirm total installed thickness and the wheel's resulting position.
  5. Confirm whether the listing is one adapter or a set.

If a measurement is missing, send us the product link and the information you have through Contact. A blank specification is a reason to ask, not a reason to copy a value from another part.

Frequently asked questions

Will adding a sixth wheel stud increase the vehicle's load rating?

Do not infer a higher load rating from the wheel-side lug count. This conversion does not establish a new rating for the vehicle or assembly.

Is every 6x5.5 wheel suitable?

No. The pattern is only one part of the specification; the wheel's dimensions, hardware requirements and intended application also matter.
