5x120 vs 5x120.65: Why 5x4.75 Is Not an Exact Match

by Billet Wheel Adapters on Oct 01, 2026 Categories: News

5x120 and 5x120.65 are different bolt patterns. A 5x4.75-inch pattern converts exactly to 5x120.65 mm, because 4.75 × 25.4 = 120.65. Do not substitute 5x120 simply because a listing rounds the metric number.

The difference in plain numbers

Label Exact circle diameter
5x120 120 mm
5x4.75 120.65 mm
5x120.65 120.65 mm

The bolt-circle diameters differ by 0.65 mm. Each corresponding position is therefore 0.325 mm farther from the center on the larger circle. That arithmetic describes the geometric difference; it is not an allowable tolerance or a statement that the parts are interchangeable.

Why product wording can be confusing

Some listings use inch labels, some use metric labels, and some place an approximate metric value beside an inch pattern. A title containing both numbers may look authoritative even when the numbers do not agree exactly.

When you encounter that conflict, keep the original wheel manufacturer's specification and the product link. Ask the seller to confirm the exact nominal pattern for the part. Do not decide which number “must” be right based on appearance or on a similar listing.

A safer way to compare your information

  1. Identify the vehicle hub pattern from the actual configuration.
  2. Identify the wheel pattern using the wheel part number or its manufacturer.
  3. Convert any inch notation without dropping decimal places.
  4. Compare the vehicle and wheel sides separately with the adapter specification.
  5. Stop and ask for clarification if the title, fields and description disagree.

Our conversion chart is a reference aid. The bolt-pattern measuring guide explains the identification process, but a rough tape measurement should not be used to resolve a small specification dispute.

Do not force a near match

Do not use tightening force, enlarged holes or improvised hardware to make a mismatched pattern appear to fit. This article does not provide modification instructions. Send the exact conflicting labels through Contact so the product specification can be checked before purchase.
